This is the start of the Dreamcatcher Earthship. Our 8 year journey from start to present day. This has been one wild trip! We are now finishing the inside.
1,400 tires later, it looks more and more like the home we dreamed it would be.

The "Dreamcatcher" is 80% complete. The front face consists of 9 -8 foot glass panels. These allow passive solar gain in the winter to heat the earthships interior. The house remains cooler on hot days and warm in the cold ones.Plaster work was done by Smity's plaster of Branson Mo. What a wonderful job they did!

The roof is constructed in a manor that allows collection of rian water. Now have 4000 gallons of fresh water. Our only concern now is with them overflowing.
Thanks to Michael Reynolds of Survival Solar Architecture for his assistance with this design. His books and video's have been our guide throughout this project.
We wish to pay tribute to Dennis Weaver and thanks for his inspiration and guidance to a greener way of living.
Power for the Dreamcatcher earthship is supplied by solar panels and wind generators that feed a battery bank . A constant energy flow to the barn and house is supplied by batteries. High demand appliances require a generator for power but our system is not yet fully constructed. A complete solar system will be added. Additional wind generators will be added as we need them.
This southwest style kitchen is evolving into, what we hope will be, a very special cooking and gathering space. I can't wait!
This is the master bath lavratory with exposed copper plumbing and bottle windows. This is the second concrete countertop in the house. It was poured in place.
The stencils are are a very old hacienda style.
Low impact , no utility bills ,with comfortable living is the goal.
Many curious folks have stopped in to visit. We have tried to get them to work but the best we can get is an "attaboy". An excitement follows to see the final outcome of the project and they return to follow the progress. We welcome and look forward to their visits and the can and bottles they have brought. Some are asking us about solar applications for their own cabins and homes. We are happy they will share the natural benefits for solar and wind generation.
Here-the Master bath shower with bottle window. finished in bronze color wash with stencils all around the middle.
My husband Bob and I are in our 60's. Together we are building our dream home. Hence the name "Dreamcatcher" I work daily with artizans to complete this Earthship.
We are giant and miniature schnauzer breeders with a bulldog mentalitys. The word can't or quit are not in our vocabulary.
Now, folks ask "where are we living", I reply "in the barn with our schnauzers." We have shown and raised some outstanding schnauzers for many years and we are most content when they are near.
The barn has a neat "tack room" where we temporarily hang our hats. The dogs kennel is across the back of that room. You can view the dogs as they play in the yard on my schnauzer site: icanbark.org Home Of “Stone Schnauzers”.
We invite you to visit both sites as we feature the progress of the Dreamcatcher Earthship . It is one of the first true earthships in Southern Arkansas. This lends new meaning to "The Natural State" true recycling and Green Building!
This fall has been a particularly pretty one for we have had lost of rain to support the colors.
This element was developed when Bob brought some herbs in for planting. The sun greets the day in the East side of the house. Shazam! The tires are disappearing.
